Research Scientist
Duties and Responsibilities:
Medical research scientists devise and conduct experiments in
order to increase the body of scientific knowledge on topics related to
medicine. They also develop new, or improve existing, drugs, treatments or
other medically related products. They also:
- planning
and conducting experiments and analyzing or interpreting the results;
- keeping
accurate records of work undertaken;
- using
specialist computer software to analyses data and to produce diagrammatic
representation of results;
- teaching
and supervising student
- writing
and submitting applications and progress reports to funding bodies that
support medical research
Average Salary: $80,000
Educational Requirements:
Students should take the most challenging science, math, and
English courses available in high school including advanced placement and
international baccalaureate courses.
To work in biomedical scientific research requires at least a
master's degree, and a doctorate is required to conduct advanced work or manage
research programs or departments.
